About the Opportunity
Opportunity knocks for an experienced Health & Safety Superintendent to work on a landmark APAC 'mega project', and at the greenfield stage. Offering the rare opportunity to be involved prior to production, and to be part of a highly-skilled team 'owning' all things Health & Safety.

Working on an expat FIFO basis, from any global point of hire, you will oversee and elevate the safety culture and compliance standards. The role is pivotal in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of a vast multinational workforce and will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HSE systems, fostering a culture of safety excellence from the ground up.

The Role
The Health & Safety Superintendent is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continual improvement of occupational health and safety systems, programs, and standards across the Reko Diq Mine Site. This leadership role ensures operational compliance with regulatory requirements, promotes a proactive safety culture, and provides expert guidance to site departments on effective risk management, incident prevention, and workforce safety performance.

Key Skills & Experience Required:

  • Lead the implementation and oversight of the site-wide OHS Management System in accordance with national regulations, company policies, and international standards (e.g., ISO
  • Provide strategic direction to the OHS team, ensuring alignment with operational objectives and critical risk controls.
  • Support the development and implementation of comprehensive HSE management system tailored to the unique needs of the site.
  • Proven ability to partner with Senior Management to formulate and integrate the overall business strategy for health and safety, ensuring safety is a core business value.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing performance metrics, audit outcomes, incident investigations, and behavioral safety data.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture, champion and embed best-in-class Health & Safety practices across the entire site, while inspiring a culture of vigilance and responsibility.
  • Oversee OHS compliance audits, inspections, and risk assessments across all site areas.
  • Supervise and support the development and implementation of high-risk work procedures (e.g., confined space, working at height, energy isolation).
  • Act as the subject matter expert on legal and regulatory matters related to workplace health and safety.
  • Lead the site's incident investigation and root cause analysis processes and ensure corrective actions are tracked and completed.
  • Develop and manage the OHS team structure, performance expectations, training plans, and succession pipeline.
  • Leadership roles in remote sites, preferably in developing countries.
  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary health and safety teams across complex project environments.
  • Foster local leadership by actively supporting and facilitating the integration and development of nationals into leadership roles as the project advances, building local capacity.
  • Empower frontline teams and provide continuous, hands-on support to frontline leaders in crucial areas such as risk management, incident reporting and investigation, and the successful, agile execution of safety initiatives.
  • Liaise with government and regulatory authorities regarding site inspections, reporting, and legal compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and rigorously manage comprehensive emergency response plans, conduct regular, realistic training drills to ensure site readiness.
  • Champion safety leadership and workforce engagement programs, fostering ownership of safety at all levels of the organization.
  • Provide regular reports, updates, and strategic recommendations to the HSE Manager and senior leadership.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Certified Lead Auditor in ISO 45001 or equivalent OH&S management systems.
  • ICAM (Incident Cause Analysis Method) Training & Certification
  • Emergency Response Coordination or Crisis Management Certification
  • Advanced certifications in OHS (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, OSHA, IOSH) required.

Experience:

  • 11–15 years
    of progressive experience in occupational health and safety roles, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or superintendent capacity within the mining or heavy industry sector.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale OHS programs and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Sound understanding of OHS regulations and international HSE frameworks (ILO, ISO, ICMM, etc.).

Skills and Capabilities Computer Skills:

  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, and presentation and spread sheet applications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, safety data management systems, and digital auditing tools.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to influence and drive change.
  • Expert knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and emergency response.
  • Proficiency in developing and managing OHS systems, procedures, and documentation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with an eye for operational risk.
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills at all organizational levels.
  • Strong report writing, presentation, and documentation abilities.
