Role: Commercial Lawyer
TL;DR
Marque is out there, noisy, very commercial and very underwhelmed by expensive suits and boardroom tables. We're into doing good and interesting work, loving our clients, being loved by them, firm-wide banter and punching above our weight at most things.
All of our clients are on retainer of pay fixed fees, leaving you free to concentrate on the relationship and the work. You'll never have to lay eyes on a timesheet again
We're looking for a sharp
2–5 year lawyer
to join our
Commercial team
. You'll be part of a high-performing, genuinely fun group of lawyers working across technology, AI, media, entertainment, construction and general commercial law. You don't need to speak fluent code, but if you're familiar with things like SaaS agreements, EULAs, licensing terms, services agreements, and data and privacy obligations, and enjoy helping fast-moving tech clients navigate them, you'll feel right at home. Outside of that, if you have a can-do attitude and willingness to roll up your sleeves, this is the job for you.
Applications:
The Work:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of general commercial, media and technology contracts, including services agreements, licensing agreements, software as a service agreements, reseller and distribution agreements, EULAs, DPAs, supply and procurement agreements, consultancy agreements and NDAs.
- Advising clients on contractual interpretation and risk allocation.
- Providing practical, commercial advice on regulatory compliance, especially around the Privacy Act and GDPR (including drafting privacy policies).
- Managing client relationships and retainers.
- Contributing to the growth of team and business through the delivery of legal updates.
The Ideal Candidate Will Bring:
- 2-5 years PQE with a current Australian practicing certificate.
- Strong general commercial experience, including experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
- Familiarity with technology and SaaS contracts.
- Experience in the tech sector (or a genuine interest in it) is a big plus.
- Ability to deliver fast, clear, confident and commercially-focused advice.
- Excellent communication skills and a knack for balancing multiple client needs.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to roll up your sleeves.
What Sets Marque Apart?
The reason Marque Lawyers exists is to use law for good. This is as simple as it sounds. We did not become lawyers just to spend our careers navigating corporate clients around legal roadblocks and maximising our personal incomes.
Marque is a certified B Corp, which says that our business is led by a purpose other than profit. Read more about that here:
Marque Lawyers is a law firm that doesn't measure the value of its people or its clients in six-minute units of time. We don't charge by the hour - all of our clients are on retainers or fixed fees, which means you can focus on relationships and great work.
The Perks

- Annual retreats (sometimes to the likes of Tasmania or Uluru).
