Position Description - Community Development Coordinator

Purpose

The Community Development Coordinator will utilise qualitative and quantitative data to

identify challenges that affect community wellbeing within the City of Marion. This work

informs priorities and direction, using evidence-based practices to work collaboratively

towards positive and sustainable change.

Collaborating within the Projects and Partnerships team and across various areas of council,

multi levels of government, external councils, businesses, not for profits, state and federal

peak bodies, this position offers a platform for positive engagement and collective impact

within our community.

Utilising community development theories and principles, the Community Development

Coordinator will support a strategic and coordinated approach to develop practices that best

address the needs of the community.

The Community Development Coordinator will partner with key stakeholders to support new

initiatives, existing projects and/or work with partners to develop solutions to support

identified needs. A strong emphasis is placed on data driven, evidence-based practices and

working collaboratively with our partners.

By assuming this role, you will play a leading role in the City of Marion's efforts to drive

excellence in community development, thereby furthering council's commitment to

improving business and community outcomes to achieve our vision.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

• Use data and evidence-based practices to develop partnerships both internally and

externally that strengthen community capacity and promote wellbeing, through the

application of community development frameworks.

  • Utilise effective research and evaluation methodologies to identify community needs,

assess effectiveness, and inform the direction of priority work areas, ensuring

alignment with organisational goals and community outcomes.

  • Develop strategic partnerships and collaborations that support collective impact

outcomes, initiatives and projects designed to deliver meaningful and sustainable

benefits to our community.

  • Provide positive leadership and advocacy across council and externally in the

fostering and education of Community Development principles and practices.

  • Develop community development projects and partnerships within scope, aligning

with allocated budgets, reporting requirements and within timelines.

  • Assist the team to fulfil the City of Marion strategic directions, organisational

requirements and team responsibilities as required.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

• A tertiary qualification in Community Development / Health or Social Sciences / Public

Health or other relevant field or at least 5 years demonstrated experience in

Community Development practices.

  • Strong project and time management skills, including the ability to think strategically,

research, develop, implement and evaluate initiatives to meet aims and outcomes of

strategic and operational plans.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic and collaborative partnerships

across diverse sectors to achieve shared goals and drive positive outcomes.

  • Strong ability to research, analyse and utilise data to guide decision-making, achieve

objectives, evaluate outcomes, and inform the development of and contribute to

future strategic initiatives.

  • Extensive skills and experience in applying and adhering to recognised Community

Development Models of practice, theories and principles, including community

engagement and capacity building methods.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build networks, foster

partnerships, and establish trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Excellent level of verbal, written and presentation skills including the utilisation of

Information and Communications Technology as a communication tool.

  • Experience working within a team and the ability to work autonomously, be self-

motivated.

  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality and display astuteness in a sensitive

and political environment.

Desirable Criteria

• Additional qualifications or accredited training undertaken within Community

Development/Population & Public Health fields will be valued.

  • Knowledge of the roles and functions of Local Government
  • Understanding of the City of Marion community demographics, strengths and needs.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning in

community development practices.

Position Description - Community Development Coordinator

Standard Conditions

• Satisfactory completion of a National Police Clearance and Medical Assessment (both

will be arranged by the City of Marion)

  • Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,

with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa.

  • Comply with existing Work, Health and Safety legislation and regulation obligations

and apply "Think Safe Live Well" philosophy.

  • Embrace ethical and moral behavior and report any suspected instances of fraud

and/or corruption in accordance with Fraud and Corruption Management and the

Code of Conduct.

  • Role model the City of Marion Values
  • The incumbent will perform other duties as required.

Other conditions specific to the role

• Must hold a valid, full (unrestricted) driver's license in accordance with South

Australian requirements.

  • The position will be based at the City Services site and will be required to work at

other CoM and community sites at times.

  • The position responsibilities require a flexible work schedule with some out of hours

work.

  • This is a prescribed position as defined by the City of Marion Safe Environments for

Children and Vulnerable Persons Policy. Therefore, incumbent must promote and

maintain a child safe environment and take relevant actions in accordance with

council's Safe Environments for Children and Vulnerable Persons Policy and with

legislative requirements under the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017 and

the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016.

  • Satisfactorily complete a DHS Working with Children Check (to be renewed every five

years) and be willing to undertake Child Safe Training.
