The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
The Australian Government National Situation Room (NSR) within National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is the Australian Government's 24/7 crisis management information and whole-of-government coordination facility. The NSR provides all-hazards situational awareness, impact analysis and decision support for Government. The NSR activates National Plans under the authority of Coordinator-General NEMA, and coordinates the provision of Australian Government non-financial assistance in response to nationally significant Emergency Management and National Security incidents. Information products produced and coordinated through the NSR are distributed throughout the Australian Government, state and territory agencies and key industry partners. The NSR includes the National Security Hotline (NSH), a vital component of Australia’s efforts to counter threats from terrorism and violent extremism. The NSH receives information from the public relating to national security and foreign interference which is passed to Australia’s law enforcement and intelligence agencies

**About the role**:
