**The Role**
Joint Health Command is looking for a Data Analyst who can collaborate across our multi-disciplinary team to understand stakeholder needs and deliver fit-for-purpose strategic health insights.
You will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering interactive and static data reporting on the Defence health system to support stakeholders in optimising healthcare delivery, and support continuous improvement and innovation through data driven decision-making.
Reporting to the Director Health Information Office, through the Assistant Director Health Analytics & Insights, the Data Analyst will be responsible for:
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to identify their business problem or question;
- Converting their requirements into technical specifications;
- Analysing the data;
- Presenting results in a clear manner and work with them to provide meaningful, actionable insights;
- Design, develop, test, and deploy static and interactive reports and dashboards in response to stakeholder business questions;
- Solving stakeholders' real-world business problems with innovative data analytic techniques, including exploratory data analysis, data interpretation, and statistical analysis;
- Understanding and using best practices around designing and developing reports and dashboards, including developing technical notes & standard operating procedures.
**About our Team**
As part of the Military Personnel Organisation (MPO), Joint Health Command (JHC) makes a direct contribution to operational capability of the Australian Defence Force through the delivery of reliable, resilient, affordable and best practice health services.
The Health Information Office (HIO) supports these activities by enabling data driven decision making at all levels of the organisation through report development and insight generation, utilising data from the Defence electronic Health System and other linked data sources.
The HIO is responsible for:
- Governance of the health information domain including the systems for collecting storing, and managing data; and data quality and assurance;
- Providing data-driven insights to internal and external stakeholders to refine the policy and enhance decision making.
The APS 6 Data Analyst is expected to produce high quality, accurate and well-researched work while managing a high workload and competing priorities. Data pre-processing, analysis and visualization, reporting and documentation and Data quality assurance are the key responsibilities. This requires high level project management, communication, and critical thinking skills to effectively manage complexity in a dynamic work environment.
- Experience in extracting, interrogating and analysing complex data sets using a range of software (such as R, Python, SQL and other software);
- Expertise with visualization tools (such as Power BI including DAX, Power query, and/or tableau) including building and managing dashboards and reports;
- Experience in Exploratory Data Analysis, Descriptive analysis, and statistical analysis;
- The ability to work independently to manage and analyse data while effectively collaborating with team members to achieve shared goals;
- Well-developed communication skills to effectively convey complex data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in various written and verbal formats;
- The ability to plan, manage and prioritise the tasks to ensure timely delivery of outputs.
