**Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage in multiple APS4, APS5 and APS6 Budget Strategy and Coordination Officer's for a 6 month permanent non ongoing position with a possible 12 Month extension in Adelaide.**
The Water Division's vision is _working together for a better water future_.
**The Portfolio and Budget Assurance Section** sits within the Regulation and Governance Branch of the Water Division. The section is dynamic and high performing. It provides budget governance and support to deliver a $3.5 billion water portfolio. This includes delivery of major programs and projects to implement the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
In this team you will be exposed to and work with central budget areas of the department as well as central agencies - Department of Finance, the Treasury and Prime Minister and Cabinet. You will understand the Federal Budget rules and the various funding options and arrangements available to the government. You will be involved in federal budget and cabinet processes, and you will translate and communicate budget positions and financial risks and opportunities to the executive and government to support informed decision making.
**The Job**
Key duties of this position include:
- Supporting brief-review processes including initial review of briefs and managing review by business partners as required.
- Ongoing engagement with Executive and teams managing programs to inform budget strategy.
- Responding to regular coordination and other requests for program funding information.
- Preparing briefings to the Executive, the Minister and other key Australian Government stakeholders on key programs as required.
- Working cooperatively with other staff and departmental stakeholders
- Driving the triaging and coordination of tasks across the broader team including tracking tasks in, allocating to streams and reporting on status of tasks as required.
- Keeping abreast of tasks and challenges on the horizon and developing approaches to proactively manage these.
- Assisting with driving business improvement projects in the Section's strategy and coordination stream/across the broader Section as required, and building relationships with Business Partners and other departmental stakeholders to help drive some of these initiatives.
- Preparing communication materials for informing the division on day-to-day management of funding and other key messages, using data and advice from across the streams to provide a clear and unified messages.
- Assisting with team planning including yearly planning for budget cycles and month-by-month management of business as usual and ad hoc tasks.

The role provides the opportunity to develop and grow their skills in portfolio management and in Australian government budget processes.
**Knowledge and experience**
- Ability to work independently and manage risk to deliver consistently high-quality outputs to meet targets and critical deadlines.
- Ability to be flexible to address shifting priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and experience building and sustaining positive relationships with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders, and as part of a team.
- Well-developed communication skills including the ability to negotiate outcomes and deliver high-quality written reports, advice and key messages on complex and sensitive issues to diverse audiences.
- Ability to plan projects and ongoing work in order to streamline of processes, ensure appropriate resource allocation and identify areas for business improvement.
- Australian Government budgetary processes, or similar budgetary processes within a public sector context.
- Experience managing or contributing to managing large program portfolios and/or budgets.
- Knowledge of SAP and/or TechnologyOne financial management information systems or the ability to develop this knowledge quickly.
- Ability to document and maintain procedures on standard business activities to allow for sharing of corporate knowledge and support for sharing of tasks across streams as required.
- Knowledge of Australian Government grant and/or procurement frameworks.
- Knowledge or experience in data analytics to interrogate financial or budget data.
- Experience in project management or coordinating delivery of complex portfolios, programs or outputs.
- Experience with business improvement or business transformation.
