**UNSW Health Precincts**:
The UNSW Health Precincts Unit, based within the Office of the Vice Chancellor and Provost, is responsible for strategic oversight of several large-scale health precincts across NSW, enabling multi-sector partnerships which deliver value, innovation and generational transformation.
The largest of these is the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct (RHIP), an exciting flagship project, undertaken in partnership with South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and Sydney Children’s Hospital Network, which aspires to leverage the precinct’s scale, diversity and expertise to influence and impact positive health outcomes.
UNSW and NSW Health are recognised globally as leaders in healthcare, research and education. The University is committed to working together with our precinct partners to create a health and education precinct to strengthen the symbiotic relationship between the Randwick hospitals, UNSW, research institutes and our extensive health partners. In recent years there has been substantial investment by both UNSW and precinct partners in new buildings and expanded services is an important catalyst for new ways of working.
**About this newly created opportunity**:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) role sits within the UNSW Health Precincts Unit, and is a newly established, critical role serving as the ‘linchpin’ to navigate and also orchestrate strategic operational advancements within the flagship partnership in Randwick. This role is essential for facilitating collaboration and new ways of working between UNSW and integral stakeholders from academia, government, healthcare, and industry, in order to drive innovation and solutions to pressing health issues, whilst also ensuring financial sustainability and strategic oversight of key operational aspects related to this precinct for UNSW.
The role is an integral and pivotal role in terms of driving the logístical, strategic and operational development of health precincts at UNSW. You will be heavily involved in critical logístical outcomes linked to the integration and redevelopment projects, including spearheading operational planning for new UNSW spaces within the Integrated Acute Services Building (IASB) and the UNSW Health Translation Hub (HTH).
You will be heavily involved day to day in complex stakeholder relationships and work very closely with members of the UNSW Health Precinct Unit, UNSW Estate Management, UNSW IT and other operational stakeholders across our own and partner organisations to deliver on the Precinct vision. The COO role will cultivate relationships which deliver sound and sustainable operational models for UNSW.
You will also have responsibility for financial sustainability, growth, management, and strategic oversight, enabling partners to collaborate, share resources, and develop capabilities, strategies, and tools to promote innovation and robust support for translational research, tackling urgent health challenges.
**What skills and experience we are looking for you to bring to this role**:
- Postgraduate qualifications and/or extensive work experience, preferably in managing complex projects across multiple organisations.
- Demonstrated experience in overseeing, operating, and establishing medical science-based educational and research facilities, shared research and educational facilities, as well as engaging commercial partners in research and education activities, with a focus on operations management in a similar capacity.
- Experience in leading and delivering major programs, extensive project delivery, and strategy development in complex healthcare and higher education environments involving multiple organisations and personalities. Extensive experience in building and managing relationships with government and industry and raising the profile of an institution to stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and problem solving with the ability to resolve and address issues as they arise.
- Proven expertise in providing significant input to strategic and operational planning and developing associated strategic papers and policy.
- Outstanding communication skills with the ability to develop and deliver effective communications, as well as the ability to write effective documents and present complex data to a broad audience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven experience of working with complex budgets and providing financial reporting.
- Proven experience and ability and capacity to direct and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the safety management system.
