The Role
We are in search of a high calibre National Environmental manager. In this role you will identify and manage environmental risks (legal, reputational, operational - greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, energy security, water risks, loss of containment issues, noise etc.) and value creation/innovation opportunities relevant to the business.
Creating, implementing, and monitoring environmental strategies in alignment with recognised environmental management standards, developing environmental management standards, principles, and risk frameworks for delivery by HSE/operational management across the organisation, designing environment training/awareness programs, evaluating, shaping, and advocating on government environment policy development and providing constructive and influential responses to affect the best outcomes for Toll, supporting the business with EPA audits, license renewals, and incident reporting, establishing and maintaining environmental metrics for reporting to senior management, assessing environmental performance and providing strategic, tactical, and operational advice to the business, and providing thought leadership internally on environmental risks and opportunities, best practices, issues, and trends.
As the National Environment Manager, you will:
- Contribute to the continual improvement of the Global Environmental Plan, including policies, strategy, governance, and generating written standards.
- Promote positive environmental practices in all operations, design, and procurement areas, and build a risk profile of the group environmental risk platform.
- Provide thought leadership and vision to manage environmental issues, develop internal and external networks to support environmental plans, and undertake environmental monitoring, incident management, and auditing.
- Educate, coach, and influence business leaders on environmental and sustainability issues, scan for partnerships with key government and environmental partners, and liaise with relevant authorities and regulatory bodies.
- Build and maintain relationships with regulatory and government agencies, industry bodies, suppliers, and customers, and provide technical expertise in environmental and sustainability issues.
- Keep up to date with developments in environmental and sustainability fields, monitor industry and community trends, develop action plans, build relationships with dotted line reports, and contribute to annual reporting (e.g., NGERS).
What We’re Looking For

- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline
- Extensive experience in an environmental management role with a focus on strategy, reporting and analytics.
- Experience with environmental approvals processes as well as contaminated sites experience including extensive knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks
- Experience in environmental monitoring and compliance inspection and extensive experience in the development and improvement of Environmental Management Systems (eg. ISO 14001)
- Extensive experience in the development and improvement of environmental reports and analytics in a large complex organisation. Experience in the use and improvement of IT systems for recording and reporting of environmental data.
- Experience in logistics and supply chain preferred.
