**The Role**
Key roles and accountabilities:

- Provide leadership in establishing the DSTG context, hazards, risks, controls and assurance processes required to support all aquatic vessels operations within DSTG.
- Accountable for oversight and development of Vessel Safety Management Systems, governance and compliance monitoring arrangements across DSTG. These are to meet with the Australian Maritime Safety regulations.
- Ensure DSTG is operating in alignment with the Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSWMS), ensuring that operational and governance processes within DSTG meet the intent of DSWMS. Responsible for oversight of the DSTG Governance Strategy for vessel operations.
- Building and sustaining effective relationships with a network of internal and external stakeholders including researchers, Defence Seaworthiness and Australian Maritime Safety Authorities.
- Under limited guidance, ensure a high-level of integration and consistency in supporting all DSTG Aquatic Platform Systems used to achieve research outcomes.
- Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements, sharing expertise with others and guiding and mentoring less experienced staff in aquatic safety.
- Working with research staff to deliver strategies to eliminate or reduce the risks from aquatic research activities so far as is reasonability practical.
- Oversight of all aquatic related work health and safety documentation to ensure it is effective and provides value in supporting safety and research outcomes.

DSTG Principal Aquatic Safety Lead reports to Chief Platforms through the Director Division Operations and is part of a dynamic team with members based in Edinburgh (SA), Fishermans Bend (VIC) and Eveleigh (NSW).
