About the Role
As the Principal Advisor you will have responsibility for the following:

- Support schools in using Auslan in the delivery of quality educational programs of deaf and hearing impaired students.
- Provide mentoring and coaching assistance to school teams and class teachers in the use of Auslan and bilingual pedagogy.
- Improve and enhance pedagogical practice for teachers by researching and modelling quality teaching and learning programs for deaf students.
- Improve the capacity of class teachers to use evidence based practice, including sign language assessment, to inform programming for students.
- Coordinate support and training regarding the use of Auslan and bilingual pedagogy for class teachers, special educators, Teacher Aides (Educational Interpreter - Auslan and Language Model - Auslan), and Advisory Visiting Teachers for Hearing Impairment.
- Provide advice regarding regional teacher aide allocations to support students using Auslan.
- Assist schools with recruitment processes for Teacher Aides (Educational Interpreter - Auslan and Language Model - Auslan), in line with the Auslan Language Model and departmental Special Education Programs.
- Provide opportunities and support for Teacher Aides (Educational Interpreter - Auslan and Language Model - Auslan) in the areas of professional and personal skills development.
- Liaise with, and report within the Regional Student Services Structure as determined by the Regional Director and identify any Auslan specific issues within the region.

**A mandatory requirement of this role is**:

- Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland. For more information please CLICK HERE.
- Teachers working in Education and Care Services (including State Delivered Kindergarten programs) require an exemption card issued by Blue Card Services. For more information please CLICK HERE.
- Applicants for this position must hold recognised Teacher of the Deaf qualifications or have demonstrated experience as a Teacher of the Deaf.
- It is expected that the Principal Advisor, Auslan has recent experience in classroom teaching and has a higher than average knowledge, understanding and experience of deaf and hearing impaired education, including Auslan and bilingual pedagogy.
- The successful applicant will be required to travel across the region and some travel into other regions may be required from time to time to assist the provision of statewide supports.
