Your Opportunity
As the Principal Advisor, Human Resources you will be responsible for:
- Providing a quality consultancy and advisory service to all levels of management on a broad spectrum of human resource management issues.
- Work as part of the broader portfolio to improve people management practices and drive, shape and influence the values and behaviours of a commercial business
This position reports to the Manager, Human Resources
This is a Temporary, Full-Time opportunity, for 12 months from date of appointment unless otherwise determined.
The position will be based primarily at the Ashmore Campus however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide quality advisory services through partnering and mentoring managers in relation to performance improvement, complaint management, organisational change, investigations and develop solutions specific to their particular business environment.
- Manage investigations and reviews such as grievance investigations, discipline investigations, and disputes.
- Develop, implement and maintain human resource systems and provide strategic human resource advice to staff and management on a range of issues including: recruitment and selection, establishment and report management, role descriptions, staff entitlements and complaints management.
- Work as a member of the portfolio on people, change and culture projects designed to deliver on a range of high level business outcomes including: employee engagement, reward and recognition, performance management and leadership and organisational development.
- Present concise, high quality and timely reports, correspondence and submissions of a complex nature on a full range of people management issues within the organisation and present strategic recommendations.
- Establish credibility and reputation of the Human Resources team by keeping staff informed, developing and maintaining networks and fostering collaborative partnerships.
- In collaboration with the HR Manager, build capability within the Human Resources team to partner with business leaders, coach managers and build people capability.
- Assist in developing and implementing the HR team plan for the Region aligned with TAFE Queensland's overall strategic priorities.
- Monitor and evaluate contemporary people and culture initiatives and trends occurring within and external to TAFE Queensland, specifically assessing their viability and contribution to best practice people management within the region.
- Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Safety First, Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative.
- Model and actively promote an ethical and safe work environment that supports a culture of zero harm and best practice regarding health, safety, wellness and sustainability.
How you will be assessed
The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

- Diverse experience in a HR generalist role, particularly at a senior advisory level in an industrialised and multidisciplinary environment and in developing and delivering robust HR initiatives and comprehensive advice.
- Proven experience in complex end to end case management which delivers on organisational priorities and values.
- Proven experience in coaching and supporting managers on human resource management strategies, including but not limited to performance management, complaints management and workforce change
- Demonstrated high level communication, negotiation, influencing and listening skills used in liaison with senior officers, unions and employees of all levels.
- Proven flexibility, responsiveness and the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.
Highly Desirable Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications and extensive experience in Human Resources, business, organisational development, or related disciplines will be considered favourably.
