**About the Role**

The Thriving Afghan Women Project Officer will deliver a range of community development activities across the division as outlined in contract work plans and community development key areas of focus. The position will include planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the Thriving Afghan Women project. The work will involve working with communities, especially Afghan communities, and services in Logan and Brisbane. The applicant must be a member of the Afghan Women’s Support Group.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Overall supervision and delivery of the Thriving Afghan Women project and activities that are culturally sensitive and of a quality standard which meet work plan requirements of this project.
- Develop and maintain effective community needs analysis in consultation with the Afghan Women’s Support Group and Afghan community members.
- Ability to engage communities and stakeholders to identify their needs, work with them collaboratively to co-design a response, and to implement and regularly review the planned response.
- Develop and maintain professional partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to improve the operations of the project and foster community connectedness.
- Implement monitoring and evaluation strategies and ensure necessary and appropriate data is collected to monitor the outcomes of this project.
- Participate in direct and indirect advocacy and contribute to responses/ submissions to government and sector issues papers/ feedback requests.
- Build and foster links with the Afghan Community Leaders and groups, CALD and mainstream service providers while fostering on empowerment, capacity building and advocacy to support the successful transition of the Afghan women in Australia.
- Represent ACSL at key events and meetings, committees, conferences and public forums and promote and improve perceptions of ACSL and its programs within the community. In addition, participate in organisational programs and events.
- Other duties as directed from time to time within your skills range and capacity.

**Selection Criteria**
- Five years’ equivalent experience and/or Tertiary qualifications in Community Development/Development studies or relevant Discipline
- Demonstrated experience in working with marginalised communities and an understanding of settlement issues relevant to people from a CALD background.
- Demonstrated skills in partnership development and relationship management.
- Strong Knowledge and understanding of project management and community engagement strategies in the multicultural sector including relevant government policies and programs.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to deal constructively with complex and sometimes conflicting situations.
- Highly developed advocacy and negotiation skills in order to represent ACSL in a professional and positive manner to government agencies and other external bodies.
- Policy formulation, development and implementation experience with demonstrated strong negotiation and decision making skills.
- Proficiency in using MS office, databases and communication technologies.
- Demonstrated experience in engaging with women, men and families into program.
- Experience in working as part of a small team and working unsupervised.
- Strong connection with the Afghan community leaders and communities.
