An exciting opportunity is on offer for an operationally astute General Manager with a strong project management background and leadership skills to join this highly success and growing Tier 3 Civil construction company based in the Eastern Suburbs. Reporting to the CEO you will manage the Civil Department within the business, setting strategy, annual budgets and targets and will drive productivity to ensure continued growth of the business.
Critical to the role is an ability to oversee the tender process for the business, provide development, coaching and guidance to the estimating team ensuring the right focus and review of tender outcomes and client feedback is conducted regularly to have a depth of understanding of trends, themes, gaps and wins. As a member of the Executive Team you will review strategy regularly and will undertaking planning and will oversee the project team to ensure a focus on growth.
**Core duties include**:
- Using your industry and estimating experience from first principle, you will coach, guide and develop the team to focus on projects aligned to strategy
- Identify, assess and evaluating risks and opportunities for tenders of work, reviewing regions and clients, profit margins and long term v short term focuses.
- Ensure Pipeline of work secured is near 6 months out with a minimum of 5 to cater to all internal crews and sub-contractors
- Vetting and approving other Civil Team Tender estimates with continuing upskilling and coaching of estimating team in process;
- Lead, manage and be responsible for the overall outcomes and performance (financial and quality) of construction projects
- Managing monthly P&L Project Job Costings and ensuring all finance/back end items accurate and timely.
- Effectively advise and assist in the planning, design, project management, monitoring, auditing, and renewal of council or other projects as required whilst upskilling team to project plan where required.
- Co-operating and communicating with the CEO and executive team, collaborating with project manager and team to create more efficient project methods and to maintain the project's profitability.
- Determine project specifications and ensure the necessary materials are acquired for completion, upskill team to manage this and plan.
- Assess flaws in designs and come up with quick and practical solutions to problems and maximize all opportunities to increase profits.
- Oversee compliance, quality control, and quality assurance standards and specifications ensuring all Civil Projects.
- Creating frameworks to measure the project's metrics and data collection, share this with executive team for strategy building.
- Build and maintain strong relationship with all clients supporting requirements whilst meeting business objectives, not just department focused, but business wide.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Lead, Manage and mentor project manager, project engineer and estimators.
- Ongoing review of team’s performance by setting, tracking and managing to SMART goals and objectives as a minimum formally annually and informally bi-annually along with capturing development and training needs;
- Foster a collaborative, supportive, engaging and innovative culture with the Civil team
**Essential skillset sought**:
- Tertiary qualifications sought
- 10+years’ experience in Managing Civil Projects ideally in road construction
- 8+ years estimating experience (in similar industry using First Principles)
- Exceptional Communication skills (written, verbal, listening)
- Proven Analytical Aptitude with success of use for positive decision making.
- Minimum 5 years Risk Assessment Skills
- Innovation Management and leadership Skills
- Proven Strategic Mindset and experience developing strategies.
- An ability to lead people through change, growth, development and motivating performance.
- Safety and Culture Focused ideally with ISO Accreditation experience
- Project Management, costing and MS Suite skills required (intermediate)
