**Policy Officer**

**About the Role**

The Policy Officer is responsible for supporting the design, implementation and evaluation of Lowitja Institute's public policy and advocacy activity. Working under the direction of the Executive Manager, Policy and Consulting, you will contribute to policy development, stakeholder engagement and knowledge translation activities that help connect research to policy and practice. Key responsibilities include:

- support implementation of the Policy Program, including policy analysis, position statements, and policy advocacy products and events
- assist in preparing written materials including reports, briefs, correspondence and policy submissions
- support the evaluation of policy and advocacy work, contributing to organisational monitoring and reporting
- contribute to the implementation of Lowitja Institute's business plan and participate in cross team initiatives as required
- foster collaborative internal and external relationships to increase Lowitja Institute's policy and research impact
- contribute to a positive and culturally safe team environment.

**Essential Skills and Attributes**
- Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Experience in policy development, research, evaluation or project management.
- Strong written and oral communications skills, with the ability to prepare high quality documents and correspondence.
- Sound relationship management skills, including experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- Understanding of cultural safety in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander context and the ability to contribute to a culturally safe workplace.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- The ability to undertake interstate travel and work out of hours if required.
- Working with Children / Vulnerable Peoples Check (or state/territory equivalent).

**Highly Desirable**
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field.
- An understanding of national and jurisdictional policy cycles, production, impact and evaluation.
- Experience working in a research or policy organisation.
