About the business unit
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) delivers high quality services to Victorians to provide a justice and community safety system that works together to build a safer, fairer, and stronger Victoria.
Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) is responsible for delivering frontline operations across the state of Victoria, which includes engaging local communities to deliver responsive and inclusive justice and regulation services. A component CJS assists Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) to deliver services through the provision of: enforcement and compliance with consumer laws through inspections and online monitoring; residential advice and education to consumers, tenants, businesses and landlords on their rights, responsibilities and changes to the law (including residential tenancy inspections); frontline dispute resolution between consumers and traders, and tenants and landlords; and business and consumer education.
About the Role
Compliance Officers conduct a range of compliance monitoring activities and inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair Trading Act, and other legislation administered by CAV. These inspections will typically include leading compliance checks issued under the State-wide Inspection Program as well as other activities identified by regional intelligence.
Requiring a degree of judgement, discretion and experience, Compliance Officers undertake more complex inspections of traders as they arise, including where there is a history of previous compliance breaches, or following a complaint of specific breaches.
Compliance Officers carry out residential tenancy investigations including rental assessments and non-urgent repairs as required.
Compliance Officers also perform front line dispute resolution, provide business and community education and lead or coordinate CAV campaign initiatives, as well as mentor CAV staff and provide leadership to workforce planning and implementation to ensure strategic priorities are achieved.
