Reporting to the Vic-Tas Operations Manager, the Operations HSSE Lead is responsible for ensuring continual improvement in our safety performance by strengthening our Goal Zero & Beyond strategies across Vic-Tas Supply Chain Operations. Viva Energy’s operational facilities in Victoria and Tasmania are diverse and include Fuel Storage facilities, High-Pressure Product and Crude Pipelines.

The Operations HSSE Lead works closely with the Operations Managers and their teams providing visible safety leadership and advice, and coaching in the development of a learning based safety culture. He/She will have a keen desire to develop, support and mentor our people in the implementation of the “Goal Zero and Beyond” strategies at all operational levels. Additionally, the HSSE Lead monitors regulatory and HSSE management system compliance, assists in the coordination of assurance activities and the delivery of safety initiatives that target ongoing improvement in our HSSE performance.

**Responsibilities**
- Supports the site Operations Managers, to ensure the integrity of the Viva Energy HSSE Management System is maintained at each location.
- Ensure the HSE Management System and the site’s Safety Case (MHF) or Safety Management Plans (Pipelines) are effectively implemented, and that we operate in compliance with applicable safety, dangerous goods and applicable legislation;
- Ensures personal and process safety risks are understood across operations, and that ways of working are effectively managing risk in day to day operations.
- Provide support, advice and challenge to site incident investigations and subsequent recommendations and/or actions.
- Be responsible for completion of assurance plans and participate in higher level business assurance activities across all operating areas; lead the review of output from self-assessment audits, and support resulting continuous improvement initiatives;
- Provide expertise on risk management and risk reviews within the operations; facilitate safety risk assessments, hazard evaluation and bowtie reviews to determine effectiveness of, and identify improvements to, risk controls and recovery measures.
- Facilitate co-ordination of safety reports, performance management reporting for both company and external stakeholders, for consolidation.
- Coach team members and contractors on contactor accreditation, job hazard analysis requirements and safety plan preparations, following business templates and accommodating local risks.

The role is principally based in Melbourne and will require regular site visits to all our operational facilities. Occasional interstate travel to support Tasmanian facilities and HSE initiatives in other Viva Energy locations will be required
**Qualifications**
You will have relevant process/personal safety qualifications, and experience in the implementation of safety management systems within industrial facilities. In addition, you will have a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory environment for major hazard facilities and our industry more generally.

You will have strong communication, influencing and interpersonal skills and relish the challenge of providing innovative solutions, coaching and support to the Operstions team that improve safety and environmental performance. Experience in leading teams that seamlessly integrate safe work practices across operational, project and maintenance activities will be highly regarded.
