About the School

Milpera State High School is an Intensive English Language school for newly arrived young people of refugee and migrant background. We facilitate good settlement and a strong sense of belonging through carefully chosen learning experiences, an extensive extra-curricular program and by valuing the cultural identity of each student.

About the Role

As the Youth Support Coordinator at Milpera State High School, you will have responsibility for the following:
work as part of a multidisciplinary team liaising with families, staff, community groups and external agencies
develop and foster relationships between the school, families and community groups to assist at-risk students to remain engaged with education
maintain accurate and timely records of student contacts and effectively communicate actions and concerns to the Student Support and Leadership teams
provide students at risk of disengaging from school with the support and skills required to actively participate in learning and the community
have a demonstrated understanding of case management and, where appropriate, group support to maximise engagement with education and training
refer at-risk students to internal supports
coordinate specific student focus activity groups within school including: Bike Club, Cooking Club, Karibu (Girls focus group), Student Leaders Program, Work Experience Program, Breakfast Club, Clothing collection and distribution and activities for Exit Parades
support Student Services HOD to organise Family Link Days
administrative tasks including excursion planning for off campus activities
YSCreports to the Student Services HOD/Guidance Officer
