Cafe Manager

Konnichiwa We're looking for a Venue Manager to lead our humble Japanese cafe/venue here in Camberwell, Melbourne. Haiku is a small passionate driven business with a love affair of culinary techniques, coffee brews, social cultures of music and art and bringing Japan right here to our door step.

Who we are

We have been well established for over 6 years at this venue, having expanded into nights (Haiku Kuro) and our relatively new convenience store located next door (Haiku Future) pushing our own branded goods, and focusing on Japanese groceries and quick to go takeaway foods. Having survived Covid and successfully navigating those waters, we are now full throttle on our service and food, pushing the boundaries of hospitality whilst always focusing on the importance of work culture.

A bit about the role

We are on the hunt for a driven, hospitality experienced member to support our owners in creating an efficient system, a fun work culture and leadership with the help of technology, trends and just having a good time.

Your role is dedicated to developing and growing our café business:

- Work to develop and deliver café goals and budget
- Deliver our high level of customer service for all guests new and old
- Lead and motivate an energetic cafe team to support the role when required
- Promote a positive culture of accountability, performance, and mental wellbeing
- Complying with health & safety, food safety and local council requirements
- Ensuring the site and equipment are maintained to the highest level
- Provide support and assistance to other staff and offer training for new staff
- Handle some tech duties from time to time on the POS and delivery apps
- Work closely with our night time and convenience store managers to cross-promote the business

A bit about you

Let’s cut to the chase - working for a family business can be equally challenging and rewarding. With over 15 years’ experience you are well supported however you’ll need the following in order to thrive:

- Demonstrate success in a similar role (two years cafe/restaurant experience desired)
- A genuine passion for hospo and people
- A big personality
- Ongoing drive and energy to self-motivate
- An open mind and positive mindset
- Outstanding communication skills with customers and staff to build relationships
- Excellent time management
- Flexibility to be a team player
- Resilience to get going when the going gets tough
- 100% accountability for your actions
- Digital literacy
- Have previous experience in a leadership role in a hospitality venue
- Have an absolutely can do attitude.
- A love affair for Japan.
- Availability to work 5 days during a 7 day working week
