The Head of Sustainability is responsible for overseeing a team of 6, while leading the development and implementation of Transurban’s sustainability strategy to deliver enduring improved social, environmental, and economic outcomes for Transurban and its community. You’ll act as a spokesperson to enhance Transurban’s leadership position on sustainability/ESG and leads efforts to maintain and continually strive to improve performance against key ESG benchmarks such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and GRESB for Infrastructure.

Reporting to the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Investor Relations and Sustainability, the Head of Sustainability will develop, champion, govern and drive the organisation’s sustainability agenda.

The incumbent will work with the group and subsidiary boards, the Executive Committee, geographic markets, and a broad spectrum of business and functional teams, to develop, coordinate and deliver the sustainability program and embed sustainability into Transurban’s operations and culture. In addition, the role will develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including government representatives, debt and equity investors, civil society, and industry peak bodies.

The impact you’ll have- You’ll play a key role in developing and evolving Transurban’s sustainability policy and strategy- You’ll initially develop a sustainability program and high-priority initiatives for the next one to two years in line with Transurban’s roadmap and define Transurban’s long term sustainability roadmap for the next two to five years- You’ll govern the sustainability program, engage group and subsidiary boards on sustainability and ESG matters with a view to continually progress the organisation’s sustainability policy and program, ensuring it is consistent with global best practice. As well as leading the delivery of sustainability programs, projects, and initiatives- You’ll oversee the company’s public sustainability reporting, act as a spokesperson and boost Transurban’s sustainability/ESG reputation- You’ll have the ability to take on major tasks, planning and executing them with mínimal day to day supervision- You’ll contribute to the company’s diversity and inclusive objectives through fostering a working environment that is fair, inclusive, respectful and values all forms of diversity- You’ll be the company’s sustainability leader and be responsible for engaging key external stakeholders, representing the organisation at relevant conferences, webinars as well as developing and promoting thought leadership articles

- If you’ve got one or more, we’d love to hear from you_- You’ll have experience in leading the development and implementation of corporate sustainability strategy, programs and policies- You’ll have a demonstrated understanding of and experience with sustainability frameworks such as the UN SDGs, TCFD and GRI as well as key sustainability/ESG benchmarks- You’ll be skilled at stakeholder engagement, providing advice and support to companies on sustainability policies and programs- You’ll have a track record of achieving credibility and trust with stakeholders at all levels and be passionate about bringing enduring change to organisations and lifting their sustainability performance- You’ll have a strong understanding of the issues surrounding business commitment to sustainability and the ability to win support for sustainability programs across the business- You’ll thrive in a people leadership role and have strong communication skills. You’ll have a mix of both analytical skills and the ability to think strategically while distilling complex information to senior executives- Related tertiary qualifications (preferred)
