The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Operations Manager to manage the daily operations and teams of our geotechnical laboratory facility. Working and collaborating with other managers of different levels in the wider Fugro team in Australia and Asia Pacific (APAC), the role is ideal for a quick learner and driven to lead the lab team to growth and success. Duties include:

- Supervise and monitor day-to-day laboratory activities/testing and team operations as well as being actively involved in the personnel management and efficient workflows;
- Maintain continuous internal communication to ensure timely submission of geotechnical project deliverables and client satisfaction;
- Work closely with the Manager - Geotechnical Laboratories APAC, Technical Manager, Quality Manager, Programme Manager, and lab personnel to further develop the laboratories;
- Understand the operations cost and manage capacity/resources based on business demand for onshore/offshore geotechnical lab operations;
- Ensure staff are trained, mentored, and coached to perform test methods safely and reliably, supporting continual career development.

Within this department, our Laboratory team is dedicated to performing a wide range of tests on soil and rock samples as well as looking after the test data analysis, using cutting-edge equipment and technology. The team plays a vital role in driving the success of innovative projects, particularly in the offshore windfarm sector, contributing to the development of groundbreaking ventures in the market.

About You

Your success in securing this role will require:

- Tertiary certificates in Engineering, Process/Production Management or related disciplines and equivalent experience;
- Experienced in a similar operation field with process-driven approach to work and proven people management skills is essential;
- Solid knowledge of soil testing and understanding of offshore marine geotechnical projects is highly desirable;
- Excellent communication skills in people leadership to coach, motivate team members and manage performances effectively;
- Strong ability to plan and prioritise workload based on internal and external clients requirements.
