The Communications Branch within the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) is looking for a high-performing Media and Social Media Manager (EL1) to lead its Media and Social Media team.

The Media and Social Media team manages DVA’s engagement with the media, including responding to media enquiries, drafting media releases and talking points, and monitoring media coverage. It also manages the department’s social media channels and develops content for both the department and the Minister.

This position will be working closely with the Minister’s Office, managing staff and competing priorities, and developing communications materials such as media enquiry responses, media releases, talking points, briefings, social media posts and background information on a daily basis.

**Duties**
- Managing media enquiries within tight deadlines - including working with business areas in the department to draft and edit responses and manage approval processes.
- Supporting the Minister’s Office and DVA Senior Executive with high quality media and social media advice and products.
- Liaising and building relationships with communication account managers and business areas to deliver high quality media and social media outcomes.
- Developing team skills across all communications materials including media releases, talking points, social media posts and statements.
- Respond effectively to requests for information from the media and the Minister’s Office including outside hours as part of the media on-call roster.
- Writing engaging platform-specific copy.
- Managing DVA and Open Arms social media channels, including moderation, liaising with business areas to draft and clear social media content.
- Working closely with the Strategic Communications team to plan campaigns and develop content.
- Liaising directly with journalists on media enquiries, pitching stories, providing background information and facilitating media opportunities for DVA’s senior executive and the Minister.

**Highly Desirable**
- Experience working in a Federal Government Media Team.
- Tertiary qualifications in Media and Communications.

A merit pool will be established that may be used to fill similar positions within the next 18 months.
