**ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY**:
The Strategic Communications team is a dedicated team responsible for providing the external communications for Council and is committed to_ _providing high quality service to all stakeholders who include our Community, our Executive, the Leadership Group and all Council staff. The team provides timely advice and assistance to internal stakeholders on a range of communications functions.
Reporting to the Manager Strategic Communications, this position is responsible for the coordination of the Communications Services Team and delivering high quality media and communications outputs for Council. This position works closely with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation to develop, implement and measure a multi-disciplinary, internal customer and community focused service and is accountable for the successful delivery of key strategies, projects and programs across the following functions:
- Communications, content creation and design
- Media and Public relations management
- Social media management and monitoring
- Crisis Communications Strategy
- Reputation management
This role is an extremely ‘hands on’ position requiring a strong ability to manage multiple competing priorities of high importance to Council. Due to the nature of the role, some evening, weekend and public holiday work will be required.
The successful applicant will require:
- Tertiary qualifications communications, journalism, public relations or a related field
- Demonstrated Knowledge and experience in the management of corporate communications and strategic public relations
- Demonstrated project management experience, including experience in overseeing complex communications and media projects and sound knowledge in the planning, implementation and evaluation
- Advanced level written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate with a range of stake holders
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and measure the success of detailed communications plans
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and oversee the creation of communications materials for a range of media, including media releases, speeches and newsletters, website copy and social media content
- Demonstrated ability to identify media risk or opportunity, manage media enquiries and develop media statements
- Highly developed organisational and time management skills, demonstrated ability to organise work, manage time, determine priorities and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to manage the production of high quality work within strict deadlines as well as working on multiple projects as part of a small multiskilled team
- Demonstrated experience to resolve problems using research, analysis and evaluation of information which may not be readily available
- Demonstrated ability to make judgements or recommendations based on advanced analytical thought
- Class C drivers licence
- Valid Working with Children Check clearance number (or ability to obtain).

**Position information**: This is a permanent, full-time position, working a 35 hour week, with access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) arrangement.
This role is located at Council's Merrylands office with occasional travel required across Council worksites and may be required to work across any of Council's work locations during their employment as required.
**Salary information**: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Grade 14 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $2,067.27 to $2,377.36 per week, plus 10.5% superannuation
