**About The Health Economics Unit**
The Health Economics Unit (HEU) is a thriving unit of about 24 health economists and 10 PhD students. The HEU delivers a successful programme of teaching within the Masters in Public Health and a Graduate Certificate in Health Economics and Economic Evaluation. HEU is also a member of the University of Melbourne Health Economics Group (UMHEG) which also includes Nossal Institute for Global Health, The Department of Economics and Melbourne Institute: Applied Economic and Social Research.
**About the Role**
We are seeking those interested in joining our talented health economics team with an opportunity to work on high impact projects on the Economics of Genomic Technologies and Genomic Medicine. The post(s) will provide an exciting opportunity to specialise in health economic evaluation and preference-elicitation methodologies in the context of genomics and precision medicine, and to inform national health policy working alongside Australian Genomics.
Working as part of research team, you will be expected to support, develop and manage a program of health economics research under direction from A/Prof Ilias Goranitis and Prof Kim Dalziel. The precise research program for the position will be devised to reflect the skills, experience and research interests of the successful applicant.
Responsibilities include:
- With broad direction from supervisors developing and managing a research program consistent with the needs of the group and the agreed research program.
- Producing high quality research outputs in peer review journals including methodological and empirical research findings.
- Contributing to and participate in teaching and learning activities in the school as requested.
- Responding to enquiries about health economics from external stakeholders and other clinical groups, including enquiries from external researchers wishing to have health economic input into their studies.
**About You**
To be successful for this role you will demonstrate high level skills related to collection, collation and analysis of health data. You will have superior communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal) as well as your ability to work within a research team to achieve project goals and meet deadlines. You will have a willingness to participate in teaching of short courses and to develop materials to promote the use of health economics in a wide variety of health economic studies within University of Melbourne and affiliated institutes and hospitals. You will also be confident in Quantitative research skills such as a major in econometric or economics.
You will also have:
- PhD in Economics with a demonstrated experience in health-related research.
- Previous experience in teaching.
- Experience conducting preference-elicitation research.
- Experience in working and analysing data sets including use of STATA, Ngene or NLOGIT.
- Demonstrated ability to work with researchers from other disciplines including, but not restricted to the areas of epidemiology, biostatistics and clinical medicine.
