**Industrial Energy Efficiency Branch**
Energy plays a vital role in achieving the Australian Government’s ambitious emission reduction targets of 43 per cent (on 2005 levels) by 2030 and net zero by 2050. The Industrial Energy Efficiency Branch in the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is looking to fill several vacancies at the APS5 and APS6 level for policy, program delivery and technical roles.
There are a number of work streams across the branch, many with cross over between teams. The branch engages internationally on energy efficiency policy for buildings, industrial processes, equipment and energy management. These positions include opportunities to conduct international research, liaise with International Energy Agency working groups and advise on policy informed by international experience. Long term, effective and productive stakeholder engagement is core work for the branch to ensure the development of effective policy and that programs are successfully delivered. You will work with stakeholders from industry, the states and territories and internationally.
The branch runs both short and long term programs to reduce energy for businesses. This includes operating the Commercial Building Disclosure Program, a significant regulatory program which mandates the disclosure of building energy ratings. Small and medium-sized businesses are supported through short term programs to manage their energy use, by providing targeted advice and financial incentives.
Industrial energy efficiency policy is being developed in close consultation with industry and jurisdictions to understand the drivers behind energy use in Australian industry, in order to increase energy performance and decarbonise businesses and support the National Energy Transformation.
Key policy elements include supporting businesses to make use of new technology to increase energy resilience and schedule loads to enable the use of renewables. Commercial buildings energy efficiency policies and program reduce the greenhouse gas emissions emitted by Australia’s commercial buildings sector through improving their energy performance. This includes supporting the development and expansion of the National Australian Built Environment Ratings System (NABERS), further development of the National Construction Code and improving the Commercial Building Disclosure Program.
Knowledge or experience of energy efficiency policy or programs will be well regarded but is not essential.
- Policy development skills, ability to solve problems and think strategically.
