**About the team**
Research is one of the Cancer Council NSW's most important and significant investments, with Cancer Council NSW being the largest funder of cancer research in the not-for-profit sector in Australia. Cancer Council NSW aims to fund research of the highest scientific merit and of value to the community that it serves and represents.
A significant proportion of Cancer Council NSW's research investment is through a suite of research grant schemes, providing funding to the cancer research community across Australia. The grant program is administered by the Research Grants Management Team and overseen by the Cancer Research Committee. The team contributes to the development of organizational research strategies and is a key stakeholder in the systems supporting research management.
**About the role**
This is an exciting full time permanent role that coordinates a grant funding program of approx., $10 million a year. The role interfaces with multiple stakeholders, including cancer researchers and community stakeholders, and provides proactive support to the governance of the grant program. The role works closely with the Senior Advisor, Research Management and Cancer Council's national Research Intelligence sub-Committee which has representation from all Cancer Council State and Territory grant programs.
Based in our Woolloomooloo office, with a balanced approach to working from home, this role reports to the Senior Advisor, Research Management.
The role coordinates all aspects of the program, facilitating the scientific and community assessment of the schemes and manages all pre
- and post-award processes with support from legal, finance and communications specialists. The role coordinates community and consumer research engagement and coordinates the conduct of training for consumers in working with researchers.
Some of the key responsibilities of the role are:
- Coordinating a grant funding program of approx. $10 million per annum
- Providing secretariat support to the Cancer Research Committee, which is a sub-committee of the Board
- Promoting our research funding and communicating the purposes of the grant programs to all stakeholders in close collaboration with the Research Communications Lead
- Liaising between Cancer Council NSW, research consumers and community stakeholder organisations
- Assisting in the financial administration of grants, including grant payments and acquittals, with finance officers and the research management accountant.
- Maintaining and managing relevant databases to ensure clear records of grants awarded are captured and that robust data is readily available for reporting or strategic planning purposes
- Identifying opportunities for streamlining pre
- and post-award processes and assisting in the development of quality systems and procedures.
**About You**
- Tertiary qualifications and recent relevant experience in a research administration environment
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, with proven ability to organise and prioritise work and complete tasks with tight timeframes, while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining accurate records including data entry, extraction, analysis, monitoring, and compliance. Advanced skills in Excel highly regarded but demonstrated experience in systematic and accurate data entry and manipulation of database outputs is essential.
- Demonstrated highly developed computer skills, including proficiency using MS Office suite and experience with online data management systems.
- Demonstrated experience in providing secretariat support to committees.
- Demonstrated experience dealing with information of a confidential nature
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and work cooperatively within a team setting
- Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to provide clear, succinct, and accurate advice.
