**The Role**
An APS 5 Ministerial Liaison Officer contributes to the Office of the Chief Defence Scientist coordination of the Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) by supporting the Chief Defence Scientist (CDS) - the Deputy Secretary of DSTG - in Government and Defence Enterprise engagement. The Ministerial Liaison Officer will promote the objectives of the CDS through timely, efficient communication with key internal and external stakeholders.

They will be expected to understand inquiries received from Government and may be required to assist with drafting responses. They will also be expected to manage broader correspondence across the whole of government and whole of Defence on DSTG-related matters. The officer will support the tasking of Ministerial briefs, correspondence, and Parliamentary events.

A Ministerial Liaison Officer is expected to support CDS in her participation at Defence Enterprise committees including Investment Committee and Enterprise Business Committee, by eliciting and collating talking points and other briefing material from relevant line areas. They will also prepare the CDS for attendance at Senate Estimates or provide support for other parliamentary processes, ensuring briefing materials are completed prior to CDS’ review.

An APS 5 officer will be required to engage with relevant DSTG teams and stakeholders to convey the expectations of CDS. They are expected to maintain records of correspondence and briefing material on Defence ICT systems. They are expected to exercise sound judgement for time and task management in a work environment that deals with competing, time-sensitive priorities. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
