Job Introduction
Reporting into and working closely with the Head of Branded Services, the Programming Manager will take direct responsibility for the genre team formulating and executing the editorial strategies and operational output of one of our channel portfolios across Australia and New Zealand.
The first point of contact for internal and external programming queries, this role will build key relationships with our platform and advertising sales partners, assist in identifying growth opportunities for the portfolio, and support the Head of Branded Services in leading the Channels Team.
Main Responsibilities
- To lead and oversee the day-to-day management of the channels within the genre group, providing the point of contact for internal and external enquiries.
- To develop long-term content and programming strategies for our channel portfolio in ANZ maximising ratings & KPI targets whilst upholding the individual channel brands and supporting strategic business objectives across the portfolio.
- To execute the agreed programming strategy for the channels (both linear and non-linear), ensuring their smooth operation through effective scheduling and inventory management, maintenance of detailed forward planning documents, timely and clear communication and accurate data management.
- To build close relationships with key platform partners, including Foxtel, Binge, Fetch, Sky and external channel groups.
- To assist in the leadership and management of the Programming Team, comprising Programmers and Programming Assistants, including setting performance targets and managing personal development.
- To work closely with the Media Planning, Marketing and Creative teams to plan and execute channel brand and on-air promotion strategies drafting and inputting into briefs when required.
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Acquisitions and Head of Branded Services to provide clear editorial requirements and strategies, and apportion/track budgets.
- To preview & evaluate programmes taking into account channel brands and target audience. The role will ultimately make recommendations to the Head of Branded Services for all acquisitions for the genre portfolio, taking channel strategies and budgets into consideration.
- To ensure audience research is effectively utilised to properly inform content decisions and highlight future opportunities and weaknesses across the channels, reacting decisively to declining performance in a considered and strategic manner.
- To ensure all contractual requirements of the channels are met (Hours, VOD, closed captioning, HD, ad mintage etc).
- To work closely with the Head of Branded Services on ad revenue optimisation and proactive sponsorship opportunities.
- Contribute to growth strategies for the portfolio, including evaluating commercial opportunities and developing/shaping new channel proposals.
- Ensure channels are compliant with BBC Studios’ Editorial Framework and Guidelines.
- To work closely with the Head of Branded Services and other contacts on cross-genre projects, team management & efficiencies.

- Provides leadership and direction for a genre programming team and acts as key point of contact for channel or territory enquiries. Executes and manages the agreed channel programming strategies and performance targets for the regions.
