Junior/Resident Medical Officer for IMMEDIATE START with GENERAL REGISTRATION
- Appointment available for PGY1, 2 and SRMO levels.
- Attractive salary package, relative to appointment level
- Full time, fixed term for remainder of the 2025 clinical year (until February 1st 2026) with potential for more senior role in 2026

The Role
- Be mentored and work alongside experienced clinicians in a diverse spectrum of Medical and Surgical specialities
- Collaborate with groups across MQ Health to participate in research projects
- Be exposed to a wide range of clinical conditions and treatment for these, including advanced procedural interventions
- Supervise and train students and other Doctors in Training
- Contribute to educational activities with MQ Health
Rotation opportunities exist across the following terms:
General Medicine including Respiratory/Gastroenterology/Endocrinology; Cardiology; Medical Oncology/Haematology; General Surgery/Plastics; Urology/Gynaecology; ENT/Ophthalmology/Cardiothoracic Surgery/Vascular Surgery; Neurosurgery; Orthopaedics; Relief; Emergency Medicine (Coff’s Harbour Secondment).

Key Accountabilities include (_Not limited to_):
Clinical
- Provide clinical service within the scope of practice granted by the Advisory Committee and approved by the Board to patients of MUH and the Clinics.
- Participate in and fulfil the duties and responsibilities as set out in the HETI term description provided for the term of the Internship.
- Conduct initial assessment of patients including an accurately documented comprehensive patient history and physical examination.
- Formulate a management plan and order appropriate investigations in consultation with supervisors.
- Coordinate and follow up of the patient’s management plan to ensure that it is carried out and assessing its outcome.
- Communicate of the patient’s assessment and management plan with the medical staff and other members of the team providing care to the patient.
- Communicate with the patient and their family/carers about their condition, assessments and management.
- Review all pathology, radiology and other diagnostic reports and advise the registrar or consultant and/or take appropriate action.
- Liaise and work effectively with allied health professionals involved in patient care including the broader care team.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation and electronic medical records in a timely manner, to reflect clinical decisions, tests, procedures and discharge diagnoses and instructions.
- Participate in ward rounds with the clinical team as required for inpatient care at MUH.
- Participate in formal handover and ensure effective communication (with particular regard to deteriorating patients), while meeting standards of care.
- Comply with MQ Health policies and procedures and the MUH By-laws.
- In consultation with the admitting doctor, ensure appropriate arrangements are made for patients on discharge from MUH to maximise continuity of care, patient-centred care and good health outcomes - including timely and respectful liaison with patient’s family, carers and general practitioner as appropriate.
- Adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice.
- Promptly advise supervising staff, admitting doctor or senior medical staff of any concerns regarding a patient’s condition or management.
Administrative
- Attend Discipline, Program and MQ Health meetings as required by supervisor(s) or the Director of Medical Services.
- Participate in Discipline/Program Morbidity and Mortality meetings and other meetings deemed compulsory by supervisor(s) or the Director of Medical Services.
