**The Role**
As an APS 6 Contract Management Officer you are accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex contract management work within an integrated workforce. You will require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

As and APS 6 you will exercise a considerable degree of independence and supervise a small team where you will be accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows. You will exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide detailed policy advice. You will have in-depth knowledge of the contract management function and will assist the EL 1 in development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to your work.

You will engage in complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and / or assist in detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence. You will assist the EL 1 as required to develop and implement work plans, set performance indicators, and review individual, team and business performance, focusing on identifying opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. You will have a considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex or difficult issues. You will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. You will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

**About our Team**
The Destroyer, Guided Missile Systems Program Office (DDG SPO) is part of the Major Surface Ships Branch (MSS) within Maritime Sustainment Division (MSD) and the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG). DDG SPO leads the Destroyer Enterprise in sustaining the Hobart Class DDGs: HMAS Hobart (III), HMAS Brisbane (III) and HMAS Sydney (V).

You will be a valued member of the Contract Management Team (CMT) that contributes to through life asset management to support the Royal Australian Navy capability. Our vision is to have balanced, effective and affordable capability and availability for the Hobart Class Destroyer fleet, by ensuring the capability is available and reliable for seagoing operations.

Your competency in the following areas is distinctly advantageous:

- Defence/Government Procurement policies and procedures;
- Contract/Agreement drafting;
- Provision of Commercial advice;
- A flexible, diplomatic and personable approach to working with stakeholders across a diverse range of stakeholders across all areas of Defence; and
- Ability to understand, analyse, identify solutions to complex contracts and commercial queries, and identify matters that require escalation to senior team members.

Highly desirable experience and skills for the successful execution of this role include:

- Experience in supervising staff and you will be managing a small team.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills;
- Contract drafting with complexities, sensitivities and negotiation with multiple parties;
- Commercial experience (preferably in a Defence environment);
- Experience in a commercial office);
- Experience and compliance with Commercial and procurement policy;
- Proficiency using Outlook and the Microsoft Office suite of programs; and
- The demonstrated ability to successfully engage and communicate with team members and stakeholders through technological means, or in-person.
