APRA is seeking a Risk Specialist to join our GCRA function within our Cross-Industry Insights and Data Division, with a particular focus on risk culture.

The GCRA team provides specialist risk expertise and advice to APRA’s supervisory teams in relation to governance, risk culture, remuneration and accountability practices. While we are seeking a risk specialist that will primarily focus on risk culture, GCRA works collaboratively across all its areas of focus and there are broader opportunities for an individual across these areas.

This role provides a unique opportunity to shape and deliver on APRA’s program of work to drive the transformation of risk culture. This will build on our existing initiatives including APRA’s Risk Culture Survey, Risk Culture 10 Dimensions framework, GCRA assessment methodology, non-financial risk metrics analysis, and Sustainable Transformation toolkit.

You will:

- support the continued roll-out of APRA’s Risk Culture Survey to over 200,000 employees at ~60 entities and derive key insights from the data that can be used by supervisors and entities;
- lead assessments and provide advice on regulated entities’ risk culture practices, including undertaking behavioural discussions, focus groups, and surveys with entity employees, and triangulating a wide range of quantitative and qualitative data points to form actionable insights;
- attend meetings with senior leaders of regulated entities and provide feedback on their risk culture practices;
- develop APRA’s ability to identify and analyse non-financial risk metrics to provide further insights on risk culture, including our work on Unobtrusive Indicators of Risk Culture;
- further develop the team’s use of innovative approaches such as natural language processing which further support the analysis of risk culture;
- provide training and quality specialist advice to APRA’s frontline supervisors, and uplift internal capability on risk culture to enable effective supervisory oversight;
- roll out webinars, articles and information papers to communicate with industry stakeholders;
- contribute to broader GCRA projects and further embed GCRA in ongoing supervision;
- keep abreast of relevant regulatory and technical developments, both locally and internationally in relation to governance, remuneration and accountability.

You are someone with:

- extensive experience in assessing risk culture, preferably within the financial services sector;
- the ability to analyse both quantitative and qualitative data to produce risk culture insights, draw conclusions and inform decisions;
- a sound understanding of how financial institutions operate, the key risks they face and how risks are managed;
- excellent analytical and problem-solving ability along with strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to work with key stakeholders, build relationships and take ownership to deliver on commitments.
