**Position Information**:
Lake Illawarra High School is a comprehensive high school situated on the foreshore of Lake Illawarra on the traditional lands of the Wadi Wadi people. The school has a FOEI of 149. Currently, there is a mainstream enrolment of 569 students, with 23% identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 7 students having English as an additional language/dialect (EAL/D). The school is also home to the 'Harbour Centre', a special education unit, which caters for 48 students across two ED classes, an IM class, two MC classes and an Autism class. The establishment of a seventh support class is currently being planned.
The school caters for a wide range of student abilities and offers an extensive curriculum with opportunities for students to engage in extra-curricular activities. This includes initiatives across the domains of sport, leadership, technology, and the creative and performing arts. This ensures students are provided with opportunities to excel across a range of different experiences.
The school provides on-demand technology to maximise learning opportunities and boasts industry standard facilities for vocational training. Lake Illawarra High School is a member of the Illawarra Academy of STEM Excellence allowing students to engage with a wide range of industry partners.
The staff at Lake Illawarra High School utilise quality teaching practices in a safe, secure and well-managed environment in order to improve educational provision. There is a strong focus on building the capacity and confidence of staff to consistently deliver quality lessons and promote leadership density and succession planning.
Lake Illawarra High is a member of the Lake Learning Community and works together with both the feeder primary schools and community to sustain a culture of effective, evidence-based practice for ongoing improvement, and to support the learning and wellbeing of students as they transition from primary to high school.
The school has a proud tradition of engaging with and collaborating with Aboriginal parents, the community and local AECG. An onsite CLONTARF Academy provides ongoing support and the provision of opportunities for Aboriginal boys. A girls mentoring program is in development to promote partnerships and connections, with a focus on transition points and pathways.
The school is supported by a small, but supportive, parent body. This group has recently formed and will work closely with the school to consult, provide feedback and provide a voice for the school’s community.
