**Position Information**:
The Illawarra Hospital School is a School for Specific Purposes (SSP) located in the Children's Ward of Wollongong Hospital. The school implements high quality individualised learning programs for Kindergarten to Year 12 students who have been admitted to Wollongong Hospital.

Students are either inpatients or outpatients of Wollongong Hospital and are an extremely diverse group, coming from a range of cultural backgrounds and all sectors of schooling. While the school is situated in the Children's Ward, it also caters for students who may be admitted into other wards. Daily, the school works closely with student's census school, parents/carers, medical staff, therapy teams, social workers and community agencies, to provide high quality care and individualised education. The wellbeing and engagement of students is a priority.

The principal leads the school’s strategic vision aligned to the department’s priorities and develops a positive school culture in partnership with the staff and school community. There is a strong emphasis on embedding quality, differentiated teaching practices across the curriculum and establishing innovative, high possibility classrooms. The wellbeing and engagement of students remains a priority.

The school also has a hub classroom supporting Stage 2/3 students with anxiety at a local primary school. The flexible learning space providing a shared and alternative education to support children who are showing signs of anxiety and are at risk of disengaging from their school setting.

**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
- A demonstrated ability to manage and balance the dual role of a teaching principal in a dynamic and enthusiastic manner.
- A capacity to be a highly visible and strategic leadership, with the ability to lead staff and implement enhanced learning and educational outcomes.
- An understanding of the uniqueness of the role and a proven ability to promote and encourage strong health, community and school linkages.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
