**About the opportunity**

We have an exciting permanent, full-time opportunity for an environmental professional to join our Waterways team as the Waterway Projects Officer.

The purpose of this role is to:

- Develop and implement activities to support the implementation of Council's Environmental stormwater management program and Six streams integrated water strategy, to help Blacktown transition to a water sensitive City, that values and improves its waterways for the benefit of the community and the environment
- Develop and deliver the waterway health planning, monitoring, and community awareness programs to inform catchment management activities, to improve waterway health and enhance liveability for our community.

**Qualifications and experience**

**Essential**:

- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or Natural Resources Management
- Minimum 2 years’ work experience in a similar work environment
- Demonstrated knowledge in catchment management issues, ecosystem health and freshwater urban stream management and ecology
- Demonstrated ability to engage with the community to understand community values and uses of waterways
- Demonstrated experience in project management including managing contractors to meet timeframes and within budget
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated commitment to deliver good customer service
- Demonstrated experience in interpretation and analysis of complex data to inform decision making
- Good interpersonal skills to effectively work with internal and external stakeholders
- Current class C driver’s licence.

**Desirable**:

- Experience in the use of InDesign software
- Experience in the use of CM9 and Technology One
- Experience in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) including ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS or similar.

**Remuneration and benefits**

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
- Entry level for this position starts at $1,798.21 per week
- 35-hour working week
