The role
You will lead and manage statewide statutory policy development to ensure the proper and effective operation of the Mental Health Act 2016 and the protection of consumer rights and the rights of victims of crime when the offender has been assessed as having a mental illness or intellectual disability. You will:

- Manage the analysis, development, implementation and evaluation of contemporary Chief Pscyhiatrist policies and related tools and resources.
- Oversee quality improvement initiatives under the mental health reform agenda.
- Oversee the operation of Chief Psychiatrist Victim Information Registers and exercise delegated administrative powers of the Chief Psychiatrist as required.
- Provide expert advice on complex sensitive and time critical matters in relation to the Mental Health Act 2016 and other legislation or system-wide policies, procedures and issues that impact the rights and interests of consumers and victims.
- Collaborate and influence across departments, Hospital and Health Services, statewide agencies and external stakeholders to achieve desired goals and optimise outcomes.
- Unleash potential and empower your team of five staff by removing barriers and building capacity.

The successful person
You will be an experienced senior leader, with the ability to successfully lead a team, set direction, motivate and inspire others. Your highly developed communication and problem solving skills provide you the ability to liaise, manage and negotiate with stakeholders and prepare high quality, robust and timely reports, submissions and formal correspondence.

You will have expert knowledge of the interpretation and requirements of relevant legislation and policy (e.g. Mental Health Act 2016, Guardianship and Administration Act 2000) and its complex inter-relationship with government, non-government and private sectors, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
