- Adelaide - SA, Brisbane - QLD, Canberra - ACT, Darwin - NT, Hobart - TAS - Melbourne - VIC, Perth - WA, Sydney - NSW
**Who we are**
The new National Energy Transformation Division is being established to support the Australian Government to drive the transition to a clean energy future. The Division will be instrumental in delivering the Australian Government’s commitment to reduce emissions by 43% from 2005 levels by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2050. The work of the Division will be key to transforming our energy systems as we facilitate the transition to a lower emissions economy.
The National Energy Transformation Division will work to support a smooth and cohesive energy transition. We are responsible for:
- working with state and territories to deliver the National Energy Transformation Partnership and developing policy that enables a smooth transformation of Australia’s energy sector
- strategic coordination of the 82% renewable target by 2030
- driving reform in planning and governance of energy systems
- transforming our systems to reflect the increasingly integrated approach required for Australia’s energy markets to deliver on climate goals.
- reporting to Energy and Climate Senior Officials Group and managing Energy and Climate Ministerial Council (ECMC) business
- working closely with market bodies and other agencies to collaborate on delivering an ambitious energy and climate agenda.
- considering the changing needs of the energy workforce to ensure Australia has a skilled energy workforce to support new energy infrastructure and technology development.
- developing social licence policies and programs including a framework for gaining, maintaining and measuring social licence for the clean energy transition.
**The Job**
This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly established Division to influence and drive Australia-wide change and help to achieve the Australian Government’s emissions reduction and renewable energy targets. We have staff working from all over Australia and offer a flexible, diverse and collaborative workplace. We value everyone bringing different backgrounds and points of view to work every day. We can give you an exciting, challenging and rewarding career with the opportunity to contribute to policy that affects all Australians.
- briefing Ministers and senior executives, both in writing and verbally
- undertaking research and analysis
- developing robust and evidence-based policy and program advice
- drafting papers for energy ministers’ consideration, new policy proposals and whole-of-government submissions
- liaising with a range of stakeholders, including with market participants, energy market bodies, state and territory governments and other Commonwealth Departments and agencies on specific issues
- managing often complex government processes to a high standard
- supervising and developing staff.
The APSC Work Level Standards have more information about the expectations at different levels - look at ‘Policy’ functions for EL1.
**What we are looking for**
**Knowledge and experience**
You don’t need to be an expert in energy or energy markets, but a keen interest in advancing an ambitious energy and climate agenda will be helpful.
An understanding of energy systems, economics, policy, programs, stakeholder engagement, legislation or regulation, project or financial management, or data analytics would ensure you would be well placed to take on a role in the Division.
**Skills and capabilities**
- have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex issues succinctly.
- have confidence in liaising with both internal and external stakeholders, showing cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- can work under limited direction and can handle competing priorities.
- can shape strategic thinking by coordinating, analysing and advising on the energy market and related issues.
