**About Dept. for Education - Aboriginal Learning**
This is a unique executive opportunity to lead strategic and visionary thinking, planning and action and positively influence the lives of Aboriginal children and young people through education and learning in South Australia.
The Assistant Director will bring experience and passion to the provision of excellent education outcomes for all Aboriginal children and young people within the network of schools and preschools to provide exemplary operational support to the department.
**About the Assistant Director position**
This role will represent the mission and vision for Aboriginal education, engaging at local, State and in national forums to ensure the needs of Aboriginal children, young people and the system are met now and into the future.
The Assistant Director will drive practical and meaningful policy, programs and initiatives that support all education leaders to implement and deliver on the department’s Strategic Plan, Aboriginal Education Strategy 2019-2029 and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Strategy.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic leader to join the Department for Education, as the new Assistant Director you will have a proven track record as an experienced educator with proven success in lifting educational achievements and outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people, families and communities. Essential to this role, is the ability to lead, develop and inspire success across a large and diverse department including exceptional skills in policy development, change leadership, communication, people management and stakeholder engagement.
**What you will be doing**
As Assistant Director of Aboriginal Education the duties and tasks are varied. Below you will find a list of some key duties and responsibilities:
- Driving the improvement agenda to support improved performance of Aboriginal learners across South Australia
- Strategic connections across the department to inform curriculum strategy and policy development
- Working closely with all stakeholders in the Department for Education
- Understanding and using data to drive system change for improvement
- Work in partnership with Director Aboriginal Education to provide high level advice to Chief Executive and Minister
- Overseeing the positive movement of students into, through and out of education
- Being an advocate for the success of Aboriginal and young people's education
**What will enable your success**
This role requires an energetic and influential leader to provide the best, cultural advice with the goal to improve academic success for Aboriginal children and young people. You will need extensive experience in working with Aboriginal peoples in a range of educational settings as well as leading the strategy of educational programs.
To be successful in this role we you will need:
- Qualifications in Education
- Experience presenting to a range of diverse groups and develop working relationships
- Experience in the development of educational programs and curriculum
- Experience leading and mentoring teams
- A passion for making a difference in Aboriginal and young people's lives
