Your Role

The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for supporting the Personal Lines Department (PLD) underwriting teams by undertaking research and basic underwriting functions including new business, renewal, and endorsement processing, broker communication, and other projects as directed by the Unit Manager.

The Underwriting Assistant will be the first point of contact for all policy maintenance and endorsement requests coming into the NUC through the entire producer network with the responsibility of completing associated work tasks within personal authority and referring to the Underwriter or Senior Underwriter where requests exceed personal authority.

**Your Responsibilities**:
Underwriting Quality

Evaluate, accept or decline new business, endorsements or renewal business based on underwriting guidelines to ensure profitability and growth of the PLD portfolios

Achieve or exceed quality audit expectations, and ensure thorough and accurate file documentation is upheld

Monitor profitability of portfolio and provide constructive feedback on steps to improve if required

Collate underwriting information and refer risks outside the scope of authority issued or the underwriting guidelines to the Underwriter or Senior Underwriter with recommendations

Prepare pre-renewal underwriting reviews and refer to the relevant Underwriter where required

Complete broker follow ups for outstanding work items as directed by the Unit Manager

Monitor workloads and advise the Unit Manager where required i.e. seasonal business loads or annual leave

Service Delivery

Establish and maintain professional, strong long-term working relationships with producers serviced through the NUC through the regular attendance of broker visitations, and Chubb home appraisal services

Ensure all work processes align with and adhere to CICA’s customer service charter, including monitoring progress of items referred to Underwriters for review

Monitor competitors’ products and recommend changes to our wording to sustain competitive advantage

Assist all producers with product and business queries

Where applicable, establish and build new relationships with potential producers (or refer to Business Development Underwriters) who have prospective business that meets our underwriting guidelines

Foster and promote an environment of excellence in service delivery through your communication and professionalism with internal & external stakeholders

Team Collaboration & Operational Efficiency

Foster collaboration by maintaining a high-performance culture across the PLD NUC teams demonstrating ability to be a team player and promote an environment that encourages teamwork and cooperation

Work with the Unit Manager to ensure process and procedures are continually challenged and reviewed to identify improvements

Assist colleagues and Managers with product and business queries

Assist members of the appraisal section with any queries

Assist members of the claims department with any queries

Where required assist in coordinating producer functions / events

Assist in general department matters as directed by PLD NUC Manager

Encourage and support team members to identify cross marketing opportunities when presented

Strong written and oral communication

Developing underwriting skills operating in the high-net-worth insurance market

Solid negotiation and marketing skills

Solid organisational and analytical skills

Solid understanding of Underwriting policy practice and policy documentation requirements, including terms and conditions as defined by industry regulations

Understanding the appraisal services and other associated policy benefits within PLD

Developing understanding of the underwriting appetite of other departments

Front-End, Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
