About the Role
This role is responsible for assisting the Underwriting team in managing the insurance portfolio for medical practitioners and medical practices within Avant's risk appetite, supporting sustainable growth in line with portfolio objectives. The Underwriting Assistant plays a key role in supporting the team and engaging with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver the best outcomes for members and policyholders. A key part of the role involves managing relationships with Member Services, Growth, and medical practitioners, ensuring service delivery aligns with team commitments. Additionally, the role contributes to identifying system and process improvements that enhance customer experience and operational efficiency. Working closely with the Member Solutions and Member Experience & Operations teams and occasionally other areas across Medical Indemnity and the wider Avant Group, the Underwriting Assistant also interacts externally with account managers, brokers, doctors, and policyholders to support the delivery of effective underwriting services.

The principal purposes of the position are to:

• Assist with underwriting renewal and new business, ensure accuracy of underwriting information and data, and actively support portfolio growth. Manage the flow of applications for new business and renewals. Direct client and prospect contact including outbound sales calls
• Work with key stakeholders to develop and manage the reporting of business by channel
• Support the team to provide an underwriting service to Avant internal and external stakeholders, customers, and members that meets or exceeds service level obligations
• Participate in a high-performing team and support good business outcomes

Key skills required to perform the role:

• Experience in a similar product management role within finance or insurance
• Experience with general insurance products, preferably in Professional Indemnity or Medical Indemnity
• Experience dealing with direct customers through either sales or service with experience in financial services products
• Demonstrated ability to support the reporting requirements of the team
