Who will you be working with? This position reports to the Regional Head of Operations, EHS. The purpose of the Business Manager is to be responsible and accountable for the strategic and operational management of all aspects of Wabtec’s operations at our Keysborough site. A key focus of the role is on driving and developing operational excellence, process improvements and people management in line with the strategic objectives.

What will your typical day look like?
Accountabilities:
- Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the Melbourne Operations team to ensure the delivery of products and services to customers, meeting Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery targets.- Process Application: Implement methods and processes defined by the National Supply Chain and Purchasing Manager to ensure accuracy in delivery.- Financial Performance: Contribute to the financial performance of Operations, as measured by financial cost statements and other metrics (e.g., Inventory), in line with budgets and plans.- Team Performance: Ensure the Melbourne Operations team meets goals, adheres to plans, engages in Continuous Improvement activities, and behaves in line with the company’s Values.
Responsibilities:
- Sales Forecasts: Manage the delivery of Melbourne sales forecasts for Transit on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis through effective Sales & Operations Planning.- Development Plans: Prepare and maintain short, medium, and long-term development plans for the Melbourne Operations Department, focusing on process and performance improvements in key areas.- Inventory Management: Accurately manage Melbourne inventories to drive improvements in inventory levels and stock turns per year.- Budget and Forecast Reporting: Participate in budget and forecast compilation and report performance to the Leadership team and Transit Group as required.- Production Oversight: Oversee Production, Repair, Overhaul functions, and first-level maintenance activities in Melbourne and at customer sites.- Customer Service: Manage Melbourne customer service teams, including providing quotes for equipment repair and overhaul, excluding direct business development activities.- Process Improvement: Assess recommendations for process improvements and design programs to implement necessary changes.- Team Leadership: Lead and manage Melbourne Production and Customer Service employees to foster operational excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.- Lean Practices: Implement Lean practices and continuous improvement within Melbourne Operational areas and departments.- Adaptability: Operate positively in a changing environment and commit to accountability.-
- Additional Duties: Undertake other reasonable duties as assigned by the General Manager - Supply Chain, Operations and Projects or other nominated representatives.
Safety & Environment Accountability:
- Process Management: Assist in creating and managing processes and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all Melbourne employees.-
- Supplier Safety Assessments: Facilitate or conduct supplier Safety Assessments.-
- WHS Contribution: Contribute to Workplace Health & Safety (WHS), comply with safe systems of work, minimize risk to the business, and participate in the continuous improvement of the Transit Integrated Management System (IMS).
General Responsibilities:
- WHS and Environmental Program: Promote the Company’s WHS and Environmental program by setting high standards for safety and environment, encouraging employee involvement.- Safety Compliance: Act safely at all times and work within developed safety systems.- QSE Policy Compliance: Comply with QSE policy requirements, related procedures, and other relevant management system requirements.- Safety Culture: Support the organizational safety culture by promoting safe behavior, identifying improvement opportunities, reporting incidents/accidents, and identifying hazards.-
- Safety and Environment Review: Provide input to the review of Safety and Environment as part of Management Review.
