The Deaf and hard of hearing services team builds the capability and confidence of school leaders, teachers and specialist staff to improve the educational achievement of students who have hearing loss, including those students using Auslan. Deaf and hard of hearing services collaborates with key stakeholders to develop expert, innovative and cohesive services to students, school staff and families across Queensland.
The Deaf and hard of hearing services team provides expert information and plans, develops and coordinates professional resources that:

- Support school staff and regional support services to include, retain and engage students

About the Role
- Manage the production of teaching and learning resources for the service.
- Work collaboratively with the DHHS team to develop a statewide professional learning and capability building plan for school staff, teachers of the Deaf and advisory visiting teachers.
- Support school and regional personnel through the development and presentation of professional development activities targeting the improved educational outcomes for students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing as part of a whole school approach to support student learning and connecting educators with current research.
- Support the development of effective partnerships between units within the department, regions, other government departments and community agencies related to Deaf/Hard of Hearing Services.
- Engage with research and maintain current speciality knowledge and contemporary best practice in the education of students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
- Provide information and advice on the specialised teaching strategies required when working with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
- Work collaboratively to plan, develop and deliver learning and development activities supporting the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Services that utilise a variety of multimedia formats such as on line courses and presentations.
- Assist specialists to plan, prepare and deliver quality and effective teaching and learning programs for students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing consistent with the principles of effective learning and teaching, inclusive curriculum and improved pedagogy, assessment and reporting.
- Prepare written reports as required.
- Maintain teaching competency and current knowledge of the Australian Curriculum, assessment and reporting processes and system knowledge as required by the department, school or other relevant statutory authorities and legislation and policies relating to students with disabilities.
- Maintain links with the Regional Auslan Coach team to ensure cohesive service delivery.
