The Manager Regulation and Compliance (that is also the Principal Legal Officer) ensures that activities at Victoria's assisted reproductive treatment providers are compliant with legislation, regulations and conditions and provides guidance and leadership to the VARTA Regulation team.
The Manager leads and manages the Regulation team providing high level authoritative advice and action on regulatory compliance matters. Working closely with the Department of Health and other co-regulators to deliver the required functions, the success in this role underpins community and industry confidence in assisted reproductive treatment.
Accountabilities
- Lead and manage the Regulation Team, ensuring VARTA undertakes its regulatory role and priorities for fulfilling key functions in a targeted and risk-based way to protect the welfare and interests of:
- Provide information and guidance to registered ART providers on compliance with the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008 (the Act), Regulations and Conditions for Registration.
- Monitor compliance of ART providers and provide responsive intervention and enforcement including reviewing adverse incidents and actual or potential breaches of the Act, Regulations and / or Conditions for Registration.
- Through the Chair/ CEO advise the Minister for Health on actual or potential breaches of the Act, Regulations and/ or Conditions for Registration, and developments relating to research and treatment to infertility.
- Develop effective relationships with key stakeholders, including other regulatory agencies, to encourage positive regulatory outcomes.
- Provide strategic guidance and authoritative advice to senior management and other staff on current and emerging issues, including high level input to inform policy direction and strategy formulation.
- Proactively participate, contribute and collaborate as a member of the VART leadership team, including contributing to building a positive and supportive team culture.
