Trackers/Matchmovers are responsible for creating 3D cameras and other motion files that adopt the same movements as the original background plate. This enables the live action to seamlessly interact with the CG elements. The motion files created (either camera, object or body track) are then passed on to other departments to enable them to start implementing CG elements seamlessly into the original plate.

The Head of Tracking will be a senior artist in their own right. In addition to working on challenging production shots, they are responsible for managing the day to day running of the department based in Melbourne. The Head of Tracking will provide leadership, mentor more junior staff and ensure the department's work is delivered to the highest standard within production deadlines.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Working closely with all levels of Production as well as lead artists to ensure they have the resources they need to meet deadlines and quality standards
- Accurately assessing how long tracking shots will take to complete by artists at different levels and communicating to Production
- Identify suitable show leads within the department
- Have a strong understanding of the key skills, strengths and weaknesses and tracking capability of the individual members of the team
- Carry out annual appraisals for all members of the team
- Ultimately responsible for all quality control aspects of work produced by the department
- Recognising the training needs of the department. Organising and delivering training sessions and mentoring junior staff
- Working with recruitment to build strong relations with local universities and colleges to build a future talent pool. This may include some teaching responsibilities
- Develop new tools and workflows to aid team productivity
- Manage the content and format of the department wiki pages

**Essential Skills**:

- Degree / Diploma aligning to the position
- At least 5 years previous experience working in a film VFX pipeline
- 5 years full time work experience will substitute formal qualifications if none are available
- Tracking knowledge and experience at a senior level
- Ability to problem solve
- Strong understanding of the visual effects pipeline
- Strong knowledge and experience of using 3d Equalizer and Maya
- Working knowledge of Nuke and Linux
- Ability to lead and motivate a team including training junior artists
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively to colleagues at all levels
- Excellent organisational skills
- Able to efficiently meet deadlines
- A good understanding of cameras and photography and the effects of different lenses on perspective and distortion

**Desirable Skills**:

- Mel or Python scripting skills
- Native stereo experience
- Knowledge of alternative tracking software
