The role administers databases with appropriate performance monitoring, and maintenance activities to ensure optimum performance and integrity.
The role ensures appropriate backup and recovery processes are in place and tested as appropriate.
The role also ensure that database related issues are managed through appropriate incident/problem management processes to resolution.
Key accountabilities

**Operating at value range 1, you will**:

- Establish appropriate database monitoring (including automated notifications) to identify issues relating to performance, availability, integrity and security.
- Maintain databases (including tuning, indexing) to ensure optimum performance, availability and integrity.
- Report on database performance relating to but not limited to, usage, data volumes and response times.
- Establish and maintain effective database backup and recovery processes.
- Ensure appropriate data security plans are in place, monitored and reported upon including audit trails.
- Ensure that database related issues are managed through appropriate incident/problem management processes to resolution.
- Provide analysis, design, technical options, best practice usage, and performance optimisation relating to data management, data transport, data transformation, data storage structures (including data marts and data warehouses) and analytics tools.
- Work collaboratively with all SSU teams to provide database administration advice and mentor teams to develop their technical and departmental skills and knowledge.
- Maintain architectural documentation and artefacts.
- Support effective solution implementation by providing guidance and direction to projects teams on database issues impacting the solution and its implementation.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant whole of Victorian Government and Federal Government ICT policies and standards.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
