Contract opportunity at a large government agency as an APS6 Legal Policy Officer

**Your new company**
This Federal Government Department is seeking an experienced APS6 Legal Policy Officer for a 6 months + extension

**Your new role**
In this role, you will work within a small team that is responsible for providing federal government legal policy support services in relation to specific Commonwealth legislation. Your will have experience in developing and implementing new legislation.

This position will report to the EL1 and will have the following key responsibilities:

- working on proposed legislative changes in line with applicable procedures and guidelines;
- assisting with the implementation of recommendations of the scheme
- provide policy advice supported by sound research and analysis;
- developing high quality documents for a range of audiences, including briefings, minutes and consultation papers;
- prepare agenda and briefing papers for the legislation and governance committee
- analysing, interpreting and evaluating information from various sources eg submissions;
- ensure that coordination and communication with internal and external stakeholders is professional, timely and effective; and
- other duties as required

The following capabilities will be required for this position:

- ability to develop strategic and policy legislative advice, prepare policy and research papers including drafting briefing to the minister and senior executives
- understanding of the legislative process and ability to translate policy into legislative drafting
- organisation and time management skills, with proven ability to show initiative and take responsibility for progression tasks and projects
- high standard of written and verbal communication, and excellent attention to detail
- ability to be flexible and think strategically to meet organisational and section goal
- capacity to work independently with limited supervision
- ability to maintain productive and collaborative working relationships, including with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
- ability to work collaboratively and effectively in what can be busy and challenging environment
