**Who we are**
The Water Policy Division provides leadership and strategic policy to ensure the sustainable future of our rivers, wetlands and groundwaters, and the people who depend on them. The Division supports water reform initiatives in the Murray-Darling Basin and leads national water reform - working to future-proof Australia’s water resources and provide support to First Nations in our national water story.

The Water Support and WELS Branch administers the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards regulatory scheme and delivers grant programs for healthy rivers, wetlands and communities. The Branch also provides operational support, strategic oversight and governance for the division, as well as guidance on improving program delivery and performance.

The Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) Section administers the WELS water star rating scheme, which saves water across Australia by informing consumers about water efficiency of household products at the point of sale. The section manages registration of products for the Australian market, the development of Australian/New Zealand Standards, engages with a broad range of industry and government stakeholders and undertakes compliance and enforcement activities in accordance with WELS legislation.

**The Job**
There are two opportunities in the WELS Section - **WELS Compliance Officer** and **WELS Registration Officer**.

The WELS Compliance Team is responsible for education, monitoring and non-compliance response of suppliers and registrants of WELS products. Working within a small team, the WELS Compliance Officer will be responsible for assessing the compliance of suppliers of WELS products advertised online and through eCommerce platforms such as Amazon and eBay. The officer will also provide administrative support to the team and section.

Key responsibilities of the **Compliance Officer** includes:

- Triaging allegations
- Coordinating a compliance case review group
- Conducting routine compliance assessments and gathering evidence to support decision-making
- Assisting with administrative duties including records management, product registration support, and project-based work as required
- Constructively participating and engaging in team meetings
- Identifying opportunities for business and process improvements
- Manage a mailbox and responding to both written and verbal enquiries

Key responsibilities of the **Registration Officer** includes:

- collaborating with other assessors to effectively manage the workload
- processing registrations payments
- identify opportunities for business/process improvements
- constructively participating and engaging in team meetings
- performing other administrative duties as required

**What we are looking for**
**Skills and capabilities**
- Strong analytical skills, including an ability to synthesise complex information.
- Good level of written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences.
- Experience in maintaining productive working relationships.
- Ability to effectively prioritise and manage competing tasks to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team to deliver a diverse range of tasks.

**Knowledge and experience**
- Experience in evidence-based decision-making and record-keeping in a regulatory environment will be highly regarded.

**Desirable qualifications**
- For the Compliance Officer, Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or Certificate IV in Government (Regulatory Compliance) or have the ability to obtain.

**Eligibility and other requirements**
**Citizenship** - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.

**Security Clearance** - This position requires a **Baseline Vetting** security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
