**The Role**
Platforms Division is seeking an experienced scientist/engineer to provide technical and strategic leadership in design, development, evaluation and transition of advanced sensing capabilities for material and structural state awareness under extreme environmental conditions. You will lead a small team of scientists and technologists in support of larger multidisciplinary work programs focused on delivery of innovative material and structural sensing solutions that support enhanced operational availability and performance of Defence platforms.
As Discipline Leader, you will be required to harness strong technical and organisational skills, a creative approach to complex problem solving and an ability to positively influence and inspire others to achieve their best as part of a high performance team delivering innovative S&T outcomes to Defence. Success in this role will require you to build, nurture and leverage relationships across the national S&T enterprise, particularly with academia, industry and Defence stakeholders.

The Material State Awareness (MSA) group is an outcome focused team within DSTG's Platforms Division. We undertake basic and applied research in materials physics, multi-spectral sensing, edge-computing, machine learning and autonomous systems to deliver new capabilities in quantitative multi-scale material state and damage characterisation to support improved capability, readiness and affordability of Defence platforms.
We deliver outcomes by leveraging relationships across the broader National S&T enterprise, including industry and academia, and with allied Defence agencies. We have a vibrant S&T culture that is strongly aligned with Defence's values, behaviours, and diversity and inclusion principles.
