**The Role**
Under broad direction from the Group Leader, the Emerging Biotechnologies (EB) Discipline Lead will contribute specialist expertise and inspire a team of scientists and technicians to achieve outcomes for Defence. Your team will deliver scientific outcomes and informed advice to ensure that Defence and National Security agencies can identify, attribute and counter future chemical and biological threats.
As Discipline Lead, you will need sound knowledge in a relevant field of biology, and will have an understanding in a range of technologies applicable to countering emerging and future CBRN threats. In addition to this, you will be required to support defence operations, which may include providing advice and the design and delivery of biological training directly related to human signature detection, and technologies of dual-use. You be will be required to identify and engage in external collaborations in the area of biotechnology, to provide novel solutions to identified problems and to enhance outcomes to a range of both National Security and Defence stakeholders.
As part of the leadership team, you will contribute to strategy development, resource allocation and build collaborative networks. A key focus will be to lead the team to develop skills and work programs that deliver and contribute to the Science and Technology Strategy for Defence 2020-2030.

- Lead the development of genomic and molecular biology procedures for countering the effects of chemical and biological threats to defence,
- Develop and lead a program in human signature detection,
- Develop and lead programs using emerging biotechnology tools in countering chemical and biological threats,
- Develop and sustain strong relationships and collaborations with industry, academic and international government agency partners, and create opportunities for the team to work cooperatively with other teams on intersecting projects,
- Allocate team resources to effectively deliver a program of work and make substantial, significant and consistent personal contributions to team outputs,
- Maintain and build skills within a team to address current needs while maintaining underpinning research and development programs to address future needs, and
- Contribute to all infrastructure and WHS requirements that maintain the Biological capability for Defence.
