Below is a list of the key duties for the Principal Cultural Advisor role:
- The role of Principal Advisor is to provide advice and support to the Director on the development, monitoring and evaluation of state-wide coordinated policies, programs and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners and offenders.
- In addition, the Principal Advisor is to work with staff across the Agency to effectively engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in recruiting and retaining Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.
**In this role the successful applicant will**:
- Provide cultural support and advice to senior management across a range of culturally appropriate programs, services and practices.
- Contribute to the culturally sustainable development of Agency statistics and data analysis that facilitate monitoring and evaluation frameworks to measure the effective implementation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policies, programs and services.
- Analyse, report and develop culturally appropriate responses to gaps in services as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners in secure custody and offenders being supervised in the community.
- Maintain effective partnerships within the department to initiate culturally sustainable departmental policy and procedural responses relating to the recruitment, retention and career development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
- Support the integrated management of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders through community capacity building partnerships with appropriate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community partners.
- Provide advice on best practice models relating to the rehabilitation and reintegration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders.
- Research, analysis and project management capability - Investigate, analyse, interpret and evaluate information pertaining to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues for the guidance of senior management.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of cultural capability, supervision and a skilled and responsive workforce.
- Manage the development and implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan and Cultural Capability Action Plan and monitor and report on the effectiveness of initiatives as a result of actioning the Plan.
- Liaise with stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, respected community members, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to identify their needs and expectations of service delivery and to determine if current services and activities are satisfying their requirements.
- Liaise with the members of the First Nations Reference Group in relation to any issues of concern.
