**The Role**
The APS 6 Assistant Regional Manager for Public Affairs (ARMPA) in the Media and Information Disclosure Branch are responsible for communication and public affairs activities from a whole-of-Defence perspective. This includes Ministerial events, Defence corporate events and campaigns, entertainment media liaison, media training, social media, branding and regional communication and public affairs activities. The ARMPA is a Defence public affairs representative in the region.
- They establish close working relationships with media, Defence units, local agencies and community organisations.
- They exercise sound decision making and judgement to provide expert communication advice.
- They have knowledge of Defence and the media and communication function.
- They are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function.
- They will engage in complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and carry out detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence.

The ARMPAs will be located in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane and will be required to travel within WA, Vic, and QLD. Interstate travel will also be required in support of the larger RMPA network. Working hours will be standard hours with flexibility if needed. In line with other APS communication officer positions in Defence, the incumbent will on occasion be ‘on-call’, including over weekends, and will be compensated in line with Public Service Conditions and Service.

**About our Team**
Each ARMPA will report to an EL1 RMPA within the region they are located in. Other RMPAs are located in Sydney, Adelaide, Darwin and Townsville to provide Defence with a regional communication network coordinated through a central hub in Canberra.

Each ARMPA will work with the EL1 RMPA, although, will require the capacity to work autonomously to coordinate and manage local media issues and activities and provide strategic communications advice and public affairs support to stakeholders within the region.

They are accountable to plan, lead and manage a range of resources and exercise the associated financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes. They maintain awareness of international and national issues to identify impact at the regional level and provide guidance and advice to Defence managers and ADF commanders on public relations, communication and media engagement.
