**The Role**
The Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) Safety Operations team is looking for two skilled safety systems coordinators who are passionate about work health and safety to be part of the safety capability that enables Defence science and technology research.

These roles will work with a team of safety specialists, emergency management experts and occupational safety professionals, whose role is to provide advice and assistance to researchers within DSTG to assist them to meet their safety obligations across a broad and often unique range of hazards and risks. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your passion and commitment to workplace health and safety by delivering on safety communication and support activities, maintaining safety policy, procedural and data records, and contributing proactively to the maintenance of the DSTG Safety Management System (SMS).

In this role you will:

- Contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of the DSTG Safety Management System (SMS).
- Coordinate statutory consultative functions, such has health and safety committees (HSCs).
- Coordinate and implement safety training activities across DSTG.
- Coordinate and update safety content and materials across a range of platforms including intranet, service desk, and training platforms.
- Coordinate and lead the change management process for the safety team of the centralised safety records ensuring data is easily recalled to meet legislation and Defence policy requirements.
- Develop and coordinate the annual Safety Month program for DSTG.
- Undertake procurement and financial support for the Safety Team.
- Assist in the evaluation of activities and processes for compliance with work health and safety legislation, policies and procedures relevant to Defence.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders across DSTG and Defence to build positive relationships and actively participate in team activities.

The Enabling WHS Capability team (Safety team) works collaboratively across DSTG to support the achievement of this commitment.

The Safety team engages with researchers from all areas of DSTG and partner to achieve better safety outcomes for Defence research work through the delivery of professional safety advice and assistance.

In a recent review of our enabling safety capability model, the safety function was divided into two streams comprising Safety Operations, and Safety Strategy and Assurance. The streams work closely and cooperatively together, but with some distinct accountabilities.

Safety Operations is delivered through two regional teams based in Port Melbourne, Victoria and Edinburgh, South Australia. Current vacancies are for safety advisors based in Port Melbourne and Edinburgh, with some necessity for travel to other regional sites in the ACT, NSW and TAS as well as regional Victoria.

The Strategy and Assurance team leads the ongoing development of the DSTG Safety Management System (SMS) and is responsible for the development and implementation of the Group safety assurance framework.

The Operations team is responsible for supporting researchers to implement the SMS in a consistent way across their specific programs of work. It does this through the provision of professional health and safety advice and assistance, through reach back to hazard specialists, and through a continuous improvement approach to the SMS to support a fit for purpose and compliant SMS.
